Mystical sounds of ice

Early spring is great time to listen to the eerie sounds of ice. On a clear day the sun is warming up the ice and in the evening it’s cooling down again, causing it to snap and crack.

Other matters, such as changes in the sea level, also contribute to the soundscape.

These sounds were recorded in the evening of 11.3.2024 at Turku archipelago. Enjoy!

Recorded with Zoom F6 and Audio-Technica BP4025.

The Audio-Technica BP4025 was mounted inside a Boya BY-WS1000 blimp for wind protection.
